The Project

About ...

The goal of the Sol-bank project is to bring more affordable Small Home Solar (SHS) to families in Africa and Asia. Access to clean affordable energy enables communities to grow and prosper. The Sol-bank project uses a circular funding system and is one of the first blockchain based SHS projects in the World. Each device, PAYGO transaction, donation and operational transaction is recorded on the Stellar blockchain providing immutable proof and transparency.

Sol-bank provides lighting and mobile phone charging facilities powered by solar energy to those living in rural communities with unreliable access to energy. It replaces kerosene and fuel burning lamps reducing harmful pollutants and fire risks whilst enabling economic growth.

What is a Sol-bank?

Sol-bank is our name for a Small Home Solar (SHS) device that provides incentives for generating solar energy. These incentives are in the form of SOLS tokens which are exchangeable for USDC (a stablecoin) and then to local currencies. This enables users to repay their device loan agreement in a shorter time and lowers cost to ownership. We use the power of blockchain to enable the unbanked to become banked via the Stellar network.
Sol-Bank is a high quality product from Jua Energy using LiFePO4 batteries which are designed to last approximately 3-4 times longer than typical Lithium-ion batteries. This is not only better for the consumer, but also better for the planet.

Power for the People

Harnessing the power of the sun has the potential to transform the lives of families in Africa & Asia. With abundant sunlight throughout the continent, small home solar systems offer a range of benefits that can improve the quality of life for African & Asian families in significant ways.

Here are some of the benefits of Sol-bank for families in Africa & Asia:

  • Access to Reliable Electricity

One of the most significant benefits of small home solar systems is access to reliable electricity. In many parts of Africa & Asia, access to electricity from the grid is limited or unreliable. Small home solar systems provide a dependable source of electricity, allowing families to power lights, charge phones and other devices, and run small appliances.

  • Improved Education Opportunities

Access to electricity through small home solar systems can significantly impact education opportunities for families. With reliable electricity, children can study in the evenings, and families can use laptops or tablets for online learning. This can enhance educational outcomes and open up new opportunities for children and adults alike.

  • Health and Safety

Small home solar systems offer a cleaner and safer alternative to traditional energy sources, such as kerosene lamps or open fires. These traditional sources of energy can be harmful to health due to toxic fumes, fire hazards, and indoor air pollution. Small home solar systems can provide clean and safe energy for lighting, cooking, and other household needs, promoting better health and safety for African families.

  • Economic Empowerment

Small home solar systems can empower families economically. Families can use electricity to power small businesses, such as charging stations for mobile phones, powering refrigeration for food storage, or operating small appliances for income-generating activities. This can create economic opportunities, improve livelihoods, and contribute to poverty reduction.

  • Environmental Sustainability

Small home solar systems are a clean and renewable source of energy, with no carbon emissions. With Africa facing the impacts of climate change, adopting small home solar systems can help reduce the environmental footprint and contribute to sustainable development efforts.

  • Energy Resilience

Small home solar systems provide energy resilience. They are not dependent on the grid, which can be unreliable or inaccessible in many areas. During emergencies or natural disasters, small home solar systems can provide a reliable source of electricity, helping families stay connected and safe.

To conclude, the Sol-bank project provides high quality long-life small home solar systems bringing a wide range of benefits for families in Africa & Asia. These include access to reliable electricity, improved education opportunities, health and safety, economic empowerment, environmental sustainability, and energy resilience. Investing in small home solar systems can have a transformative impact on the lives of those without reliable access to electricity, improving their quality of life, promoting sustainable development, and contributing to a brighter future.

Daily rewards for energy generation

Each Sol-bank owner receives a daily reward based on the average Wh output of the bundled solar panel. Each Sol-bank purchase and rental is recorded on the blockchain via our FACT token which automatically updates the stat figures on this page

Social Good Fund

The social good fund aims to help those struggling with poverty closer to home and away. Each donation is trackable on the blockchain and will be announced on our blog and social medias.
In addition to the fund itself, we will foster the creation of artwork by the Sol-bank communities and turn this artwork into NFTs on the Stellar blockchain.
The creator receives 80% of the sale proceeds with 20% going back into the Social Good Fund to aid future donations.
